In a world full of Cheerios, be a Froot Loop.

Much needed disenchantment

I know a few people - I guess you may call them acquaintances - that are in serious need of what William Bridges once phrased rather beautifully. He said "Disenchantment, whether it is a minor disappointment or a major shock, is the signal that things are moving into transition in our lives.” As we graduated to the next chapter of our lives (literally graduated, cap and gown in hand) I felt rejuvenated, ready to start over, excited for experiences unimaginable within my suburban household. Don't get me wrong, I'm nervous, extremely so, for the sweet taste of complete independence, for loneliness even. Leaving the home-cooked meals, the folded laundry and the encouragement that I've grown so accustomed to seems unreal. But I know not to dwell. I'm ready for the bigger and the better.

To those who are still caught up in the gossip from that random party in February and the lameness of prom and the regrets of yesterday, I feel sorry. This is supposed to be the greatest time of our lives, our youth! Don't dwell on the past. Recently I've realized a sad truth - that time will pass with or without you, so might as well grab the reigns and enjoy the ride. A toast to the future*
